RICH'S PRECONTEST JOURNAL II

Precontest preparation for the NPC Northern Kentucky and Natural Ohio has now begun starting at 15 weeks out from showtime. The contest dates are March 24 and March 31, 2007. The Northern Kentucky is Beverly International's national qualifier that draws well over 200 competitors and is NOT drug-tested. The Natural Ohio is won of the best drug-tested shows around and will typically have 80+ competitors vying for a Team Universe qualification.

After initial success with my first two shows, I decided to take off an extended period of time to grow. I placed first in my class in the ONBF Natural Ohio lightweight classes and won the novice overall at the INBF Cardinal Classic in October 2005. These NPC shows will be a very good test and I will be happy with a top 3 finish, but I am training to win!

I am fairly happy with my progress over the past year and have added size pretty much all over with much added size to my already strong back. Comparing last year's before pictures put things in perspective and gave me satisfaction with where I am today. I am noticeably leaner than last time, which will enable me to come in very shredded and hopefully fuller. My goal is to have separated hamstrings and striated glutes, the top standard in competive bodybuilding conditioning.

Over the past year, I have helped others win two overalls in figure and bodybuilding, as the racked up a small arsenal of axes, trophies and medals. After my shows in March, I will be training four competitors for the NPC Mike Francois Classic in May and hope to have a website up shortly thereafter. This has raised the bar for me personally as a competitor to succeed. I cannot explain how excited I am to compete after taking off over a year and sitting on the sidelines.

My current bodyweight is 185 lbs at 5'8.5" and am pretty lean at 15 weeks out, so my first diet, cardio and supplementation plan will be fairly modest. Both of these shows have a welterweight class of 154.25 to 165.25, which is where I will probably end up.

I will make calorie cuts incrementally every 3-4 weeks evaluating my conditioning and timeline. Cardio and fat-burning supplements will also be added gradually as needed. My previous eating plan included about 4200 calories to fuel growth for my natural ectomorph body type. I hope to make some decent gains with this plan as it totals about 3600 calories.

DIET AT 15 WEEKS OUT

Meal 1
3/4 c oatmeal
1/2 banana
1 scoop ON's 100% Whey + 1 scoop EvoPro
1 t flax oil

Meal 2
5 oz lean 4% beef
1 c 4% cottage cheese
1 small apple

Meal 3
8 oz chicken
1 c broccoli
1 large sweet potato
1 t olive oil

Meal 4
3 scoops Ultra Size
1 c strawberries
1 t flax oil

Preworkout
1/2 scoop Vitargo
2 t Gatorade powder
13 g essential AA's
2 scoops Xtend

During Workout
1/2 scoop Vitargo
2 t Gatorade powder
13 g essential AA's
2 scoops Xtend

Meal 5 - Postworkout
1/2 scoop Vitargo + 2 scoops Xtend (immediately)
1 scoop GF Pro + 3 scoops Mass Maker (15 min later)

Meal 6
8 oz lean steak
1 c broccoli

Meal 7
2 scoops Evo Pro
1 c strawberries
1 t flax oil

CARDIO AT 15 WEEKS OUT

Cardio will be performed twice per week for 20 minutes with one session including high-intensity intervals. I will start with the elliptical and gradually add in some treadmill jogging.

SUPPLEMENTATION

Aside from the protein and carb powders listed in my diet plan, my supplementation currently includes the extensive list below. Basics get the job done, but as a natural competitor I will splurge a bit here. Clout should be good while doing higher reps the first few months. I like the boost L-Tyrosine provides and I have extra Taurine and Glycerol Monostearate. Lean Green and ALCAR are a good non-stimulant fat-burners as I like to save the stimulants for closer to showtime if needed.

Ultra 40 by Beverly - 4/meal
R-Ala by 1fast400 - am, pre and postworkout
ZMA by 1fast400 before bed
Super EPA by NOW foods to occasionally supplement flax oil

MISCELLANEOUS
Clout by MAN - am and preworkout
Taurine by 1fast400 - 3 g preworkout
L-Tyrosine by 1fast400 - 2 g preworkout
Glycerol Monostearate - 5 g preworkout

STAGE 1 FAT-BURNING
Lean Green - am and preworkout
ALCAR - 2 g am, preworkout and evening

I talked to you very briefly at Brian's competition and just wanted you to know that you are very motivating. Thank you for being so active on Bulk. I've just recently gotten serious about training and appreciate all you've posted. It's been a informative.

Thanks big Joe! I appreciate the words. I've been kind of hard on myself the past few months b/c I didn't reach 190, but then I looked at my last before pics and that put in all in perspective. I am much leaner and have made some damn pretty good gains.

From what I remember, you have a good frame and build. I'm happy if you can take anything away from my posts and motivate.
