Green Tea Powder
Trying to do some math, came up with something like 1gr of Green Tea Extract being the equivalent to around 17 cups of the drinkable kind, in terms of catechins content. Am I way off?

Thanks.

P.S. Congrats on the great forum.

Actually, from the extracts I've seen (although I've only looked @ two, so take that for what it's worth), it seems that 1g of extract is only equivalent to about five cups of tea in terms of polyphenol & catechin content...

I did the math on the Avant board about 5 months ago. I think the name of the thread was "Green Tea" and I think I remember calculating it to being in the teens for number of cups to be the equivalent.

Here's the link to the official "Green Tea" thread on Avant....

and here's my post in reply to Spook's recommended beneficial dosage and Dante's findings...

...based on the average cup of bagged Green Tea, I estimated the ECGC content as ~40 mgs, from ~100 mgs of Polyphenols/Catechins.

That equates to drinking 15 cups/day of green tea to get Spook's recommended dosage of ECGCs! We'll need to start brewing the stuff by the gallon for each day and carry it along side our water jugs.

or

A more reasonable approach would be to get on Mike's case about some higher quality caps. wink.gif

I read somewhere that each cup is 100 mg EGCG.. in any case, even with 50 mg that would make 1 gram of the extract about the same as 4 cups... for 600 mg/day you'd need 3 grams. I take 1000 mg EGCG daily...

Ted, thanks for the link.

I got some, and I've been capping it myself, can usually get around 350-400mgs in each OO gelatin cap.

Read that Spook recommended ~600mg/day of EGCG for fat loss. That would be almost 3.3grs per day of GT Extract or like Ted said, 15 cups.

Not all cups of green tea are alike. If you boil loose leaves you get a very concentrated solution that is significantly more yellow and cloudy than if you put a tea bag in hot water.

The most I've ever consumed at one time was 6-8 cups of really concentrated green tea. It made me a bit naseus, and noticeably changed my mental state. I havent tried any extracts yet.
