I have been reading information on the store page and bb.com about r ala and ala, I just started a keto diet and was wondering which one was better to take and what doses. I kinda understand that R-ala may be better, but the reviews of the 1fast r-ala some people suggested that ala may be better.

Thanks

If you're doing a keto diet, I wouldn't use either unless just for antioxidant benefits. If you're planning periodic refeeds, then ALA/R-ALA could be beneficial.

As for which is better overall, Layne/str8flexed's somewhat recent article cited some studies that showed that neither was necessarily better than the other.

Big thanks to Par for posting that link. biggrin.gif That was a very good article, it gave me a much better understanding of the mechanism by which the glucose uptake is increased. I was already aware of the partitioning benefits of ALA, but I had never read an article that explained it in such a way. However, it still leaves me with the question that my coworkers and I have discussed in the past: What role if any could ALA play in ketosis? Would taking in ALA as part of an already low carb diet put a person into ketosis faster and help to maintain it longer? My personal experience with R-ALA as part of a low carb leaning diet was that seemed to get leaner faster taking 200mg before each meal (5-6 meals/day), as opposed to just consuming a low carb diet alone. It seemed that what little carbs I was taking in were more quickly partitioned allowing for more ketosis. Anybody else experience similar results?

I would use a low dose at most during most days and then take 600-900 mg during carb ups. As far as ALA vs. R-ALA, I think ALA works fine myself.

As a low dose like to 200-300 range of the R-ala (thats what I bought from 1fast)
Can I take it all at once or is it better to take 100mg 2-3 times a day. Thanks

The second way is better, the half-life is relatively short.

...on the carb-ups, is that 600-900mg per carb meal?....or 600-900mg TOTAL for the duration of the carb-up??

the only time I use ALA now is when glucose disposal towards muscles is highest, PWO.

Assuming it is less than one day, for the total duration of the carb up. With regular ALA you might want to use 1200-1500 mg.
