Splitting Up Leg Workouts

does anyone hear split their leg workout into two seperate days...like hamstrings one day and quads another? I was thinking about switching back to two body parts a day, and split up my legs into two days and absolutely hammer both parts on seperate days. The only problem i see is that most leg exercises you are using pretty much the hams and quads at the same time. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do here. Is it possible? besiides straight leg deads, leg extensions, and leg curls i couldnt think of anything that woud soley isolate each part of the leg seperately. Or is it just easier and more efficient to keep it all together.

If anyone understands any of this shit i just wrote, some input would be appreciated

thanks

i think in theory that would work out well but i dont think it would actually work. the most important compound exercises that you perform in a leg work out include not only quads and hams but gleuts calves and stabilizers as well... so my suggestion would be to keep it all together. but that's just me.

yeh i was thinking that also right after i posted...there is like a 99% chance ill keep it all together, i just kind of wanted to see what the options could be, to change things up a bit

well if a part of your leg is lagging you could hit that real hard on a Saturday and really Isolate it. Like me I think my hamstring needs some extra attention so I will go in on Saturday and just concentrate on pounding just my hamstring and it don't take very long cause there isn't much you can do to hit it. So now I hit hams and quads on wed. more less just really concentrating on my quads and calves and not even worry about hams and then just hams on Saturday.

So you could do it like this.

Wednesday

Squats
leg presses
hack squats
leg extensions
Then work your calves

Saturday

Leg curls
straight leg dead lifts
Sprints really help build hamstrings
and you can even hit your calves again if there lagging
and anything else that hits the hams
and then your done.

Hope this helps.

Is it only possible to do this on saturdays? Do legs grow better on saturdays?

Ive tried, but it doesnt work for me because on the days say my quads are very sore, doing hamies at the same time sucks if I gotta do laying curls, or seated curls where Im locked in. So I cant do as much weight. Plus I think if you get everything goin, just get tons of blood in the leg, you might aswell hit it all, same reasoning why I think doing arms together is good.

Usually if I work legs out on Wednesday they are ready to go by Saturday unless I haven't hit them for about a month.

Quads grow best on wednesday mid morning. Hams tend to grow much better on thursday afternoon between 3:18 and 5:27.

Most athletes train some portion of legs everyday, just in lower volumes. For instance they may do squats on Monday, Step Ups Tuesday, Front Squat Wednesday, SLDL Thursday. It works great for them, it will for you too
