anyone hear compete besides jason?
last i remember unstable all but gave it up
my last one was in march for USPF state meet
Video

I lift with these guys on Saturday(squat/deadlift) and on mondays I go to a guys house who also lifts there on sat, but it's not worth the trek on mondays, so we bench at his house since it's not as far.

Orange County Strength Club

must say I've learned a lot since starting with these guys a little over a year ago. Today I blew my face out (not the first time, but this was by far the worst, except no popped eye veins) trying to squat in a suit and briefs for an APF meet coming up in october. Normally I'd lift locally in USPF but the meet got moved to a sat instead of a sunday and I can't lift on saturdays, so now I need to drive 6 hours north to Sacramento after work on Saturday. Oh well.

There are some vids of me on the youtube page, I won't link them cuz if you care enough youll find them. I've found that metal suit is just too tight to squat in so I'll stick to using it as my deadlifter. Right now Im using briefs and a suit, both titan, to squat in. Well trying to. Got the closest I have today to APF depth with 490 (which is a huge pr for me) for a double. but it doesnt matter since it wasnt to depth even by apf standards.

I'm also head chef at my restaurant so it's really hard to balance the two, hence why I don't video tape our sessions anymore, no time to edit and upload! So that sucks. and less time to eat. holding steady at about 225. and it sucks trying to wake up early enough to lift before work, so I figure I'll lift after, but then I'm so tanked after work! it's really shitty and taking a toll.

anyways, like I said, that's pretty much my update! who else competes!?

oh and my uspf results were like....400/330/430? i think? something like that. apf i hope HOPE HOPE to squat 500, bench in the 360s (finally) and pull 455 or so. ive done 455 easy in training, and same with bench, but i always miss the bitch on the platform, so they dont count!!!!!

6 hour drive ill be doing after work sat (10pm)
i can either:
a) drive all 6 hours to sac, park in the lot, and fall asleep until weigh ins at 830 giving me roughly 4 hours of sleep
OR
b)stop off in fresno at a friends house
sleep 4 hours
and then drive the other 2 hours to sacramento.

im not against showering in the bathroom with a washcloth. ive done it before. im gangster

just benched on monday for the first time APF style. worked up to an easy 375 and called it quits. thats a huge pr. i think ive done 365 to my chest, i lose track, and 375 to a 1 board, but this went up a lot easier. no wonder they bench like that in apf!

im digging super tight f6 vs my katana. it's too fucking extreme for me. i guess ill give it a go maybe before the meet to see if i wanna use it for a final attempt. i have a 42 f6 and a 44 katana. i cant do shit with that katana but the f6 flies up.

im hoping to hit 385 next week with how easy 375 was. if that happens ill be fucking ecstatic.

All the lifts are shirted correct?

How much of a difference does it make with gear than raw lifts?

Is it that big of a difference weight wise?

Just asking always lifted raw and was always wondered

for a beginner it wont make as much of a diff, but as you learn your gear and how to use it you can get more out of it.

for instance, a beginner shouldnt wear an uber tight shirt or it's going into their belly or face because they dont know what a groove is, it needs to be looser to touch while staying tight so it doesnt plop down

Depends on the person, experience, and experience in shirt. I know guys that start out and can't lift as much in a shirt as they could with out one. I also know guys that with in a year can get a good 100 - 150 lbs carry over. Some guys after major tweaking around with a shirt can get 300-400lbs carry over. Some guysafter decades can still only get 50-100lbs carry over.

Just did an APF meet in Sacramento (7 hour drive, 90 minutes of sleep).
did pretty good, regardless of the conditions. i did GREAT considering them! i ended up with a 1335 total, 475/385/475. i wanted to squat 500 and total 1300, well i missed my squat but i got my total! so im happy, prs all around. a rough video can be found here. I'm going to put another one up after I get the dvd as we didnt record any of the bench. I think I tried to go USPF depth on that squat and i'm not used to it in that gear (briefs+suit). i did 510 in training just fine. also i think the nerves were getting to me, i was shaking like the little engine that could.

it was a small (~30 lifters) and well run meet. nothing was high IMO. especially the only guy with a canvas suit, he did it to parallel. only thing i did that i dont normally do was belly bench, but it's a bench press not a chest press! well that's my update, training is going great with ocstrengthclub!

what gear are you running? my numbers were all with uspf gear but it's the only meet i could do. is there a diff between apf and upa besides judging standards? just curious

and what do you squat and pull in, that's a huge diff.

those apf numbers i did were @227, but there were only three weight classes so i didnt feel like dieting down.

Those numbers are from the APF. The USPF I think are 722 bomb on the bench as its weird to touch so high on the chest for me and 650 dead lift. I like the USPF except for the high touch and the feet flat on the bench.
I am currently using the Metal Ace briefs and squat suit. Katana single ply bench shirt and this will be my first meet in a dead lift suit in sometime. I just got the Metal King sumo so I will see in a few weeks.
As far as APF vs. UPA I don't know as this will be my first UPA meet. But from what I have seen the judging seems to be the same as the rule books are the same.

You are way off I live in Chicago and train out in Calumet City at Quads South. Just did 804 for a double tonight. Depth is still high and walking it out my right foot got stuck and my set up wasn't right. One more heavy week to go.

Actually, I was think about another guy I know that's been competing for around 15 years and doesn't get more then 100lbs out of the shirt. His unequipped bench is huge and has several records in his weight class and wins national and world competitions in like the USAPL, NASA, WABDL, and so on. But his shirted bench sucks ass and gets on average about 50-75lbs carry over.
