So a lot of times in the morning, Ill mix in my protein into oatmeal and then microwave it for a quick breakfast.

Does this de-nature the protein and essentially make it useless as a nutrient? I've heard rumors, but have not done all too much research on it. I'm just concerned Im not getting as much protein as I would hope due to microwaving it.

I dont understand. When you microwave food...Reheating a piece of meatloaf for example....do you somehow mutate its protein content into a useles byproduct? no. If youre that concerned about it, just dump it into the oats after you cook them.

From what I've been reading in literature, heat only may affect the shape of the protein and its enzymes, but has nothing to do with changing its nutritional value.

Yeah, I always make my oatmeal, and then add my protein powder after I've microwaved the oatmeal.

I'm goin' w/ Jay on this one. Cooking any other food doesn't take away the protein from it. If you think about it, milk has been pasteurized and it's still one of the best sources of protein available. Most ppl. cook eggs, same story.

sounds like a good science project. Take it to a lab and test it.

Have Hadi cook some whey and test the theory. Hadi, post pics of it. Seriously, though, I remember reading a thread on BB a few yrs. back where a guy was experimenting w/ adding various protein powders to breads he made.

This same debate was going on there and most ppl. concluded cooking powdered protein was no different than cooking meat or anything else we consume for its protein. If anyone feels like looking it up, it was kinda interesting w/ all the pics the guy posted of his experimental loaves.

I've been doing that w/ a cinnamon oatmeal flavor protein lately. it's a blend of micellar casein, whey and egg plus flax. Makes a pretty complete meal when you add it to oats.
